Steve – Workshop Manager at 2 Wheels Only
Meet Steve, our Workshop Manager.
Steve has been part of the workshop team for over 10 years. What started as a “part-time” mechanic role never actually turned out to be part-time at all… ever.
After retiring early from the fire service, Steve turned his practical, problem-solving skills into working with his real passion: cycling. Years of hands-on experience and continuous training later, he’s become one of the most accomplished mechanics working on modern bikes today.
Steve’s knowledge goes well beyond “how to bleed a Shimano brake”. He’s equally at home diagnosing complex faults, working with electronic drivetrains, suspension systems, and the increasingly technical world of today’s bikes.
He might wear a slightly grumpy expression at times, but beneath that classic bike-mechanic exterior is a hard-working, hugely knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly guy who takes real pride in doing things properly.

Areas of expertise
About me
Hi, I’m Steve aka Branston The Pickled.
I’ve been part of the team at 2 Wheels Only since the early days — back when the business was essentially running out of what could generously be described as a glorified shed.
I’ve always loved a big challenge on the bike and tend to gravitate towards rides that test endurance more than ego. More recently, I’ve also taken up running, which has only added to the list of self-inflicted challenges.
I’m probably best known for my Everesting efforts — including the virtual Triple Everesting completed in-store in 2024. It was long, it was tough, and it involved a lot of time staring at the same four walls… but that’s kind of the appeal.
Riding & experience
Rides: Road
Years riding/working with bikes: Toooooo Many!
Current bike(s): Merida Scultura 9000 CF5 - I'm a huge fan, i've had 5 and still own 3!

My approach
I like to keep a tight ship. In a busy workshop, things only work properly when they’re organised, efficient, and running smoothly — and that’s something I take seriously.
We’re often juggling a high volume of bikes and jobs, so keeping everything in order is key. From booking work in correctly to making sure each bike gets the time and attention it needs, my focus is on consistency, quality, and doing things right the first time.
Common questions I help with
